The Chicago White Sox completed a three-game sweep of the Los Angeles Angels with a 3-2 win in 10 innings on Wednesday night. Rookie Sam Antonacci tied the game with a two-out triple in the ninth inning before Colson Montgomery delivered the winning hit in the 10th.

The loss extended the Angels’ losing streak to six games and continued a difficult stretch for Los Angeles, which has now dropped 10 of its last 11 contests. Chicago, meanwhile, continued to build momentum behind strong pitching and late-game execution.

The White Sox entered the final innings trailing by one run but remained patient at the plate and capitalized on key opportunities against the Angels bullpen.

Antonacci Sparks Ninth-Inning Rally

Chicago entered the bottom of the ninth inning behind 2-1 and down to its final outs. Ryan Zeferjahn appeared in position to close the game for Los Angeles after recording the first out of the inning.

The inning changed when Tristan Peters reached base after being hit by a pitch. That moment created an opening for the White Sox lineup.

With two outs, rookie Sam Antonacci stepped to the plate and delivered the tying hit. He drove a ball into the gap for a triple, bringing Peters home and energizing the crowd at Guaranteed Rate Field.

The hit marked another important contribution from Antonacci, who has continued to play a larger role in Chicago’s offense during recent weeks.

Montgomery Delivers Walk-Off Hit

Chicago completed the comeback in the 10th inning. After the White Sox held Los Angeles scoreless in the top half, Colson Montgomery came through with the game-winning single.

Facing Drew Pomeranz, Montgomery lined a hit that brought home the winning run and secured his first walk-off hit in the major leagues.

The dugout reacted immediately as teammates rushed onto the field to celebrate the comeback. The hit capped a game in which Chicago stayed within reach despite limited offensive production through the middle innings.

Montgomery’s growth has become an important storyline for the White Sox. The rookie has shown increasing confidence at the plate and continues to contribute in high-pressure moments.

Angels Lose Another Close Game

Los Angeles appeared in control entering the late innings. Mike Trout tied the game earlier with his 10th home run of the season, and Vaughn Grissom later gave the Angels a 2-1 lead with a solo homer in the seventh inning.

The home run marked Grissom’s first major league homer since September 2022. It also gave the Angels a chance to avoid the sweep before the bullpen faltered late.

The Angels struggled again to close out a tight game. Defensive execution remained steady, but the pitching staff could not hold the one-run lead in the ninth inning.

Los Angeles also faced another injury concern during the game. Starting pitcher Yusei Kikuchi exited after two innings because of left shoulder tightness.

The early departure forced the Angels to rely heavily on the bullpen for the second straight night.

White Sox Pitching Keeps Team Close

Chicago received another strong outing from Erick Fedde. The right-hander worked seven innings and allowed two runs on five hits while striking out six batters without issuing a walk.

Fedde controlled the pace for much of the game and prevented the Angels from extending their lead. His ability to limit free baserunners helped keep Chicago within striking distance.

The White Sox bullpen also delivered key innings late. Seranthony Domínguez pitched a perfect 10th inning, setting the stage for the walk-off finish.

Chicago’s pitching staff has become one of the team’s strengths during its recent stretch of improved play. The combination of strong starting performances and cleaner bullpen execution has helped the White Sox remain competitive in close games.

Trout Continues Productive Stretch

Mike Trout remained one of the few bright spots for Los Angeles. His fourth-inning home run tied the game and continued a productive opening month at the plate.

Trout has consistently generated offense despite the Angels’ struggles as a team. However, Los Angeles has not received enough support throughout the lineup to reverse its recent slide.

Miguel Vargas also contributed with an RBI single earlier in the game, but the Angels’ offense faded during the later innings.

The inability to add insurance runs became costly once Chicago mounted its comeback.

White Sox Build Momentum

The sweep marked Chicago’s second series sweep of the season and reflected a more consistent approach on both sides of the game.

Young players such as Antonacci and Montgomery have begun to provide timely production, while veterans like Fedde continue to stabilize the roster.

The White Sox have shown improved resilience in close games and have responded well under pressure during recent series.

Up Next

The Angels return home Friday to begin a series against the New York Mets. Los Angeles is expected to start right-hander Walbert Ureña against Mets right-hander Christian Scott.

Chicago heads to San Diego for a road series against the Padres. Rookie left-hander Noah Schultz is scheduled to make the fourth start of his major league career opposite right-hander Germán Márquez.

The White Sox leave the series with momentum and another dramatic finish. The Angels continue searching for answers during a difficult stretch that has pushed them further below .500.
