Mike Trout hit a milestone two-run homer as part of a four-run fifth inning, leading the Los Angeles Angels to a 4-1 win over the Seattle Mariners on Sunday and a split of their four-game series.
Trout crushed a 443-foot shot to center off Mariners starter Logan Gilbert, marking his 397th career home run and bringing his career RBI total to 1,001. The two-run blast gave the Angels a 4-0 lead and capped off the decisive inning.
Kyle Hendricks (6-7) delivered his best outing in over a month, allowing just one run on two hits through six-plus innings while striking out three and walking one. He picked up his first win since June 17. Kenley Jansen closed the game with a clean ninth inning for his 18th save of the season.
Seattle’s only offense came from Cal Raleigh, who continued his hot streak by blasting his MLB-leading 41st home run in the seventh inning — and his fourth homer of the season against the Angels.
The Angels broke through in the fifth inning when Kevin Newman grounded out to bring home Travis d’Arnaud. Luis Rengifo scored on a wild pitch before Trout delivered the big blow with his milestone homer.
Key Moment:
In the sixth, Jo Adell robbed J.P. Crawford of a potential solo home run with a leaping catch at the wall, preserving a shutout and shifting momentum firmly in the Angels’ favor.
Key Stat:
Trout became the third player in franchise history to collect 1,000 RBIs entirely as an Angel, joining Garret Anderson and Tim Salmon in that exclusive club.
