Kyren Paris hit a game-tying triple in the seventh, and Mike Trout added a clutch sacrifice fly in the 10th as the Los Angeles Angels pulled out a 5-4 extra-inning victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday night.

The Angels, who scored three of their five runs via sacrifice flies, rallied late and took the lead in the 10th without recording a hit. With the bases loaded following two walks, Nolan Schanuel bounced a grounder to second baseman Brendan Donovan, whose throw home was too late to catch Luis Rengifo, giving L.A. a 4-3 lead. Trout followed with a deep fly to center to score Paris and make it 5-3.

Victor Scott II’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th brought the Cardinals within one. Still, Angels reliever Ryan Johnson struck out Masyn Winn to record his first major league save in his second appearance.

Brock Burke (1-0) earned the win with a clean ninth, while JoJo Romero (0-1) was charged with the loss for St. Louis.

Lars Nootbaar launched a solo homer in the first inning for the Cardinals after umpires reviewed a deep fly ball to right and ruled it had cleared the wall. Donovan added a solo shot, and Nolan Arenado drove in a run with a single.

Key Moment

In the seventh, Paris ripped a liner down the left-field line that reached the wall, allowing Rengifo to race home from first and knot the score at 3-3.
