Jo Adell homered early and delivered again in extra innings, sparking a six-run 10th that lifted the Los Angeles Angels to an 11-5 win over the Oakland Athletics on Sunday, avoiding a three-game sweep.
Adell crushed a three-run shot in the first inning off Jeffrey Springs—his career-best 26th of the season—before lining an RBI single in the 10th to put the Angels ahead for good.
Kenley Jansen (5-2) fanned two in a scoreless ninth, moving into fourth place on the all-time reliever strikeout list with 1,268. In the 10th, automatic runner Mike Trout advanced to third on a passed ball before Taylor Ward walked. Adell’s single made it 6-5, followed by Christian Moore’s RBI groundout. Luis Rengifo broke it open with a two-run triple, Bryce Teodosio added a sacrifice fly, and Zach Neto capped the rally with a towering 436-foot homer—his 21st.
The Athletics made it a battle with the power of their own. Rookie Nick Kurtz launched his 25th homer in the third, followed immediately by Shea Langeliers’ 26th. Lawrence Butler cut the deficit to 5-4 with his 17th in the sixth, and Luis Urías tied it in the seventh with a clutch two-out RBI single.
