Nathan Eovaldi delivered a strong seven-inning performance. Adolis García crushed a two-run homer in the eighth to lead the Texas Rangers past the Los Angeles Angels 6-3 on Wednesday night, avoiding a series sweep.
Eovaldi (9-3) held the Angels to just one run on six hits while striking out four, helping the Rangers snap the Angels’ three-game win streak. The veteran right-hander dominated throughout, scattering baserunners and keeping Los Angeles off balance.
Marcus Semien led the way offensively for Texas, scoring 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs. He doubled and came around on Wyatt Langford’s RBI single in the fourth to open the scoring, then added an RBI single of his own in the sixth. Langford contributed two hits, including a double.
The game was tied 1-1 until the top of the eighth, when García launched his 15th homer of the year off the Angels bullpen to break it open. Texas added two more insurance runs that inning to extend their lead.
Nolan Schanuel responded in the bottom of the eighth with a two-run homer for the Angels, briefly cutting the deficit, but it wasn’t enough. Robert Garcia closed the door in the ninth to record his ninth save.
Angels starter José Soriano (7-8) matched Eovaldi through seven innings, allowing just two earned runs and striking out seven in another solid outing. Luis Rengifo provided Los Angeles’ first run with an RBI single in the fourth.
