Myles Straw scored the winning run in the 10th inning on a throwing error by pitcher Sam Bachman, lifting the Toronto Blue Jays to a 4-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night and extending their win streak to six games.
Straw, who began the extra inning as the automatic runner, raced home from second base when Bachman mishandled Ernie Clement’s sacrifice bunt and threw wildly to first. The errant toss sealed the walk-off win as the Blue Jays improved to 30-16 at home.
Bachman (1-2) had just entered and immediately walked Nathan Lukes, putting runners on first and second before the costly miscue. Chad Green (3-2) earned the win with a scoreless top of the 10th.
The Angels tied the game in the seventh on a three-run blast by Jo Adell, his 19th of the season.
Andrés Giménez gave Toronto a 1-0 lead in the sixth with an RBI single after Will Wagner doubled. Giménez later exited with a left ankle injury sustained earlier this week and is scheduled to undergo an MRI.
Blue Jays starter Eric Lauer was sharp, retiring the first 12 batters before Jo Adell doubled to lead off the fifth. Adell was initially ruled out trying to take second, but the Angels won a challenge and overturned the call. Giménez hit Adell in the face while applying the tag, though Adell remained in the game.
In the sixth, Giménez’s single scored Wagner, and after José Fermin replaced Angels starter Kyle Hendricks, Bo Bichette added another RBI single. A third run came home when shortstop Zach Neto mishandled Addison Barger’s grounder for an error.
Trailing 3-0 in the seventh, the Angels rallied when Mike Trout and Taylor Ward singled, and Adell launched a game-tying home run off reliever Nick Sandlin.
