Angels Roster Projection 3.0: Entering 2025 With New Pieces

The Los Angeles Angels roster looks much different entering 2025 than it did when the 2024 season ended. That was all part of the plan, as owner Arte Moreno gave the green light to increase roster spending after the team’s worst record in franchise history. General manager Perry Minasian went to work immediately bolstering the depth of the entire roster.

The first move for the Angels — and the first move by any team this offseason — was landing designated hitter Jorge Soler from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for Griffin Canning. The move was meant to give the Angels more power in the middle of the lineup while they worked on ancillary pieces.

The next major move was signing starting pitcher Yusei Kikuchi to a three-year, $63 million contract. Kikuchi was one of the best free agent starters available this offseason, and the Angels landed him at a relatively reasonable contract given the starting pitcher market in MLB.

Beyond those two big moves, the Angels have focused largely on small changes that ensure the team always has both a replacement-level player at the plate and on the mound. But the work is not done, according to Minasian.

The Angels would like to add more, especially in the bullpen where they have only made one move this offseason. And they have not closed the door on making a big trade of some kind, although he has admitted that is less likely than continuing to focus on the margins of the roster. This includes getting a new third baseman to move Anthony Rendon to the bench or an infielder to move Luis Rengifo to third.

So with all of that, we take a look at the Angels roster as it stands entering the new year. The projection does not account for injuries like the potential missed time for Zach Neto and Robert Stephenson.
