The Los Angeles Angels roster has undergone some significant changes in the month since the first offseason 26-man projection. General manager Perry Minasian has been the most active decision-maker in the game in the month of November, reshaping nearly every facet of the roster to improve depth and top-end talent.
The headlining moves were the additions of starting pitcher Yusei Kikuchi on a three-year, $63 million deal and the acquisition of designated hitter Jorge Soler via a trade with the Atlanta Braves.
But the Angels also wanted to ensure that they gave fewer at-bats to below replacement-level players, hence the additions of players like Scott Kingery, Kevin Newman and Travis d’Arnaud to round out their bench. It still feels as though there is work to do if the Angels want to compete in 2025, but their starting place is much better than it has been in recent years.
Some notable losses include Griffin Canning, sent to the Braves in the Soler deal. And the Angels opted to non-tender starting pitcher Patrick Sandoval, who is expected to miss most, if not all, of the 2025 season as he recovers from Tommy John surgery.
He could still re-sign with the Angels on a more team-friendly deal, but he is currently a free agent.
So with all of that, the Angels appear ready to try and compete for the postseason in 2025, and while more moves could absolutely still be in the works, here is what the Angels’ 26-man roster is projected to look like on Opening Day.
This does not account for the injury to shortstop Zach Neto, who is expected to miss the start of the season as he recovers from right shoulder surgery. And this does not account for an expected move that the Angels have been open about, bringing in a new everyday third baseman to replace Anthony Rendon, or bringing in a new second baseman to have Luis Rengifo take the 3B job.
