Although the baseball season hasn’t gone the way Los Angeles Angels first baseman Jared Walsh had hoped, he’s still making an immense impact as a valuable member of the community.

Walsh is now in his fourth year with the Angels, and the 29-year-old has quickly learned that his performance on the diamond shouldn’t be the only thing to focus on as a professional baseball player.

Along with 29 other big league players, Walsh was nominated as the Angels representative, via MLB.com:

Walsh has quickly become an Angels mainstay both on and off the field, as the first baseman has been extremely active in the Angels’ Rally Readers program done in conjunction with the Anaheim Public Library, along with visiting patients at the Children’s Hospital of Orange County and the Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital in Long Beach, Calif.

Walsh is one of 16 first-time nominees for this prestigious award. Beginning on Sept. 9, fans can cast their vote until Oct. 5 and will represent one vote among a panel who ultimately select the winner.

The 2022 season is the 50th anniversary of the tragic death of Hall of Famer, Roberto Clemente, and MLB will honor him in multiple ways on Sept. 15 on Roberto Clemente Day.

Other nominees

Justin Turner of the L.A. Dodgers is their 2022 nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award. Now in his eighth season with the team, Turner has found himself intertwined with the fabric of the city and the fans who support them.

Turner and his wife, Kourtney, head up the Justin Turner Foundation which provides energy and financial support to numerous efforts in the L.A. area.

Liam Hendricks of the Chicago White Sox is an outstanding player, and person, given his efforts to host events for hospitalized kids, healthcare workers, etc. He and his wife are both outspoken supporters of the LGBTQ community and are a part of events that champion their goals.
