The Los Angeles Angels front office have continued to evaluate their roster and where they need to add on, most recently in the form of starter Lucas Giolito from the Chicago White Sox.

Angels manager Phil Nevin has navigated his way through many injuries, such as Gio Urshela, Anthony Rendon and Zach Neto missing a considerable amount of time. One omission that has been among the most notable is Brandon Drury, who has been out of action since June 29 with a shoulder injury.

In his 106 plate appearances in June before hitting the injured list, Drury made a case for himself on the All-Star roster, posting a 149 wRC+ with five home runs and 18 RBI.

Drury made positive progress last week, but his next steps and a timeline were still up in the air. Thankfully, the club now has a more clear picture for their utility man as the hope is he returns this week, according to Sam Blum of The Athletic:

Having Drury get back into the fold would be another boost to an Angels lineup still compensating for Rendon’s absence.

Overall, Drury has posted a 122 wRC+ with 14 home runs, 45 RBI, and 36 runs scored in 307 plate appearances. Getting him back in the lineup is vital for the club as they make a push for the postseason and go all-in on winning this season.

After Drury returns, the club is also expected to get Mike Trout and Logan O’Hoppe back sometime this season, but the injuries have continued to pile up for the Angels with Taylor Ward and Jo Adell going on the 10-day injured list.

Angels classify Anthony Rendon’s injury as a ‘significant’ shin bruise

Rendon has been on the IL since the All-Star break after the 33-year-old fouled a ball off of his left leg. He recently underwent an MRI, which revealed a significant amount of bleeding inside the bone.

Nevin said the severity of the injury was greater than anticipated and doesn’t have a timeline on when Rendon will return.
