Having not played since their July 4th matchup with the San Diego Padres, Anthony Rendon has been a regular omission from the Los Angeles Angels lineup due to a lingering leg injury.
Rendon fouled a ball off his left leg, to which the Angels called it a ‘significant bone bruise‘ and they’d since shifted many of their efforts to fill his position. Eduardo Escobar and Mike Moustakas were both acquired to provide options to manager Phil Nevin.
The timeline continued to grow, and without updates on the high-priced third baseman, Rendon spoke with Angels reporters on Friday at Angel Stadium.
NEWS: Anthony Rendon spoke to reporters.
Biggest takeaway: He said he had a fracture, which the Angels have long said was not the case.
He declined to say whether or not he’d return next season, only that he’s focused on the present.

With three years remaining on his seven-year, $245 million contract, the obscurity of how this injury was handled is odd. Even more frustrating is the number of games Rendon has missed since being out of game action.
The Angels paid Rendon for his age-30 season and beyond, but now that they’re on the back portion of that deal, the return simply has and never is going to be there. The unfortunate nature of how his tenure has transpired could be chalked up to a financial loss.
C.J. Cron begins baseball activity; wants to return to Angels lineup
Cron initially was placed on the 10-day injured list with lower-back inflammation, finally succumbing to the ailment after 50 plate appearances in an Angels uniform. The 33-year-old posted a .217/.280./.283 slash since joining the team, tallying just one home run and five RBI.
With a little over two weeks left in the regular season, g a return.
The emergence of rookie Nolan Schanuel has both added a solid bat, but some taste of the future. Cron isn’t under contract past this season, as he joined the Angels on an expiring deal.
