An unexpected change with the Los Angeles Angels came off the field, only slightly changing the affordable fan experience that comes when attending Angel Stadium.
The Angels had one of the more productive offseasons in Major League Baseball, addressing holes on the roster while refraining from shelling out top dollar to high-priced free agents. That has given them high hopes for the season, and it could bring some renewed optimism to fans, and possibly lead to an increase in attendance.
For those fans going to games, they shouldn’t expect many changes aside from some new names, except the price to park their car, via Doug Padilla of the O.C. Register:
The fee for general parking at Angel Stadium increased from $10 to $20 this season, with many fans not realizing it until they arrived at the ballpark for the Freeway Series games against the Dodgers on Monday and Tuesday.
“During the 2023 Season, Angel Stadium parking prices include a $10 option for all Season Seat and Mini Plan Holders, while General Parking is now $20,” the Angels said in a statement to Southern California News Group on Tuesday.
Because the parking revenue isn’t exclusively locked into just the Angels, the city of Anaheim will benefit from the price increase:
While the city of Anaheim receives a portion of Angel Stadium parking revenue, spokesman Mike Lyster said the city is not involved in setting the venue’s parking prices.
The city receives 25% of revenue after $4 million has been collected in parking and also receives $2 per ticket after the team reaches 2.6 million fans in any one season. Other miscellaneous revenue also goes to the city.
Parking is the last of fans’ worries, and a $10 increase is a small cry from what Los Angeles Dodgers fans have to shell out per game with $27 prepaid parking and $30 at the gate. What can remedy everything is a successful product on the field, and a clean 2023 slate is a new opportunity to do it.
Angels home opener among most affordable in MLB
Around Major League Baseball, franchises with steady success prepare for packed stadiums and tickets that come at a premium, but one overwhelmingly unfortunate positive for Moreno and the fan base is the ability to attend games without breaking the bank.
The Angels tickets and game experience are among the most affordable with tickets being less than $50.
