Mike Trout continued one of the best power stretches of his recent career Tuesday night, leading the Los Angeles Angels to a 7-1 victory over the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium.

Trout homered for the third time in two games and helped spark a stunning first inning in which the Angels hit three consecutive home runs. Jo Adell and Jorge Soler followed Trout’s blast as Los Angeles overwhelmed Yankees starter Ryan Weathers early and never gave New York a chance to recover.

The Angels finished with five home runs in total and snapped the Yankees’ momentum after New York won a wild extra-inning game the night before. Los Angeles also handed the Yankees their sixth loss in seven games during a difficult stretch for the club.

Angels Strike Immediately

The game changed within minutes of the opening pitch.

Trout stepped to the plate in the first inning already swinging one of the hottest bats in baseball. He launched a 2-1 fastball deep into center field, sending the ball near the loading dock beside Monument Park for an early 1-0 lead.

Adell followed immediately with another fastball home run into the bullpen in left-center field.

Three pitches later, Soler crushed a 2-0 offering into the left-field seats.

In a span of five pitches, the Angels completely stunned Yankee Stadium.

The rapid barrage gave Los Angeles a 3-0 lead before many fans had settled into their seats.

It marked the first time the Angels hit three straight home runs since June 2023 against Colorado. The sequence also exposed early struggles for Weathers, who never regained control of the game.

Trout’s homer added another remarkable detail to his recent run. He has now homered in three consecutive at-bats after also going deep twice late in Monday night’s loss.

Trout Continues Dominant Stretch

Trout looked fully locked in throughout the series.

The veteran outfielder has recently adjusted his mechanics at the plate, and the results have been immediate. His swing looked quick, balanced, and powerful again against Yankees pitching.

Beyond the home run, Trout consistently pressured New York’s pitchers with disciplined at-bats and solid contact.

His recent surge has become one of the few bright spots for an Angels team still searching for consistency early in the season.

The three-homer stretch over two games also reminded observers how dangerous Trout remains when healthy and comfortable at the plate.

The Yankees struggled to contain him all series.

Detmers Delivers Strong Start

While the offense grabbed headlines, Reid Detmers quietly controlled the game from the mound.

The left-hander delivered one of his strongest starts of the season, allowing only one run and four hits across seven-plus innings. He did not issue a walk and struck out nine batters.

All nine strikeouts came on breaking balls as Yankees hitters repeatedly chased pitches below the zone.

Detmers attacked aggressively from the start and stayed ahead in counts most of the night. He kept New York’s lineup off balance and limited hard contact through every inning.

The Yankees rarely mounted sustained pressure against him.

His command and pitch sequencing gave Los Angeles exactly what it needed after Monday’s exhausting extra-inning defeat.

Yankees Pitching Struggles Continue

Ryan Weathers endured a difficult outing from the opening inning.

The Yankees left-hander surrendered five runs and four home runs while lasting just over five innings. Before Tuesday, New York starters had allowed only three home runs combined through the team’s first 16 games.

The Angels matched that total before the first inning ended.

Weathers struck out 10 batters, but Los Angeles consistently punished mistakes over the middle of the plate.

Oswald Peraza added another home run in the fourth inning against his former team. The infielder finished with three hits and continued an impressive offensive night for the Angels lineup.

Yoán Moncada also contributed with a two-run single in the sixth inning before adding a solo homer in the eighth against reliever Yerry De los Santos.

The Angels’ lineup combined power with patience throughout the night and forced New York’s pitching staff into constant trouble.

Yankees Offense Never Finds Rhythm

New York’s offense failed to respond after the early deficit.

The Yankees managed only one run and struggled badly against Detmers’ breaking pitches. Their only scoring play came in the eighth inning when Ben Rice lifted a sacrifice fly after Randal Grichuk doubled.

Grichuk’s hit snapped an 0-for-15 start to his Yankees tenure.

Aaron Judge and the middle of New York’s lineup could not generate consistent offense after Monday’s explosive showing. The Yankees also experimented with a right-handed-heavy top of the lineup for the first time since September 2023, but the adjustment produced little success.

The club continues to search for answers amid a difficult stretch that has included inconsistent hitting and shaky pitching.

Additional Yankees Notes

Before the game, the Yankees received a positive injury update regarding shortstop Anthony Volpe.

Volpe played his first rehab game with Double-A Somerset after recovering from left shoulder surgery. He went hitless in two at-bats and struck out twice, but he completed five innings defensively and recorded an assist at shortstop.

The organization hopes his return can help stabilize both the defense and lineup in the coming weeks.

Major League Baseball also adjusted an official scoring decision from Saturday’s game at Tampa Bay. The league added an error to Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. after review of a late-game defensive play.

Up Next

The four-game series continues Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium.

The Yankees are expected to send right-hander Luis Gil to the mound as they try to stop their recent slide. Los Angeles will look to carry its offensive momentum into the third game of the series after one of its most complete performances of the season.
