Pete Alonso broke out of a slump with a timely three-run homer, helping the New York Mets complete a three-game sweep of the Los Angeles Angels with a 6-3 win on Wednesday afternoon.

Alonso, who had been just 2-for-34 since July 10, launched his first home run since July 8 two batters after Francisco Lindor snapped his own career-worst 0-for-31 skid with an RBI single in the third inning.

Brandon Nimmo started things for New York with his 14th career leadoff homer, and Lindor added another RBI single in the fourth. The sweep marked the Mets’ fifth series sweep of the season.

Left-hander Sean Manaea (1-1), returning from oblique and elbow injuries, turned in five solid innings in his second start back, giving up one run and striking out five. Edwin Díaz closed out the game with a four-out save — his 21st of the season.

Mike Trout provided a highlight for the Angels with his 396th career home run, also bringing his career RBI total to 999. Los Angeles added two more runs in the seventh on a Luis Rengifo forceout and Chris Taylor’s RBI double, but it wasn’t enough to avoid a seventh series sweep this season.

Rookie left-hander Jake Eder (0-1), the final pitcher in a bullpen game for the Angels, took the loss, surrendering five runs over a career-high six innings.

Alonso’s home run, the 248th of his career, brings him within four of Darryl Strawberry’s franchise record.

Milestones to Watch:

  • Trout is just one RBI away from reaching 1,000 and four homers shy of 400, a mark only one active player has reached.
