Christian Moore drove in three runs, including two with a go-ahead double in the sixth inning, as the Los Angeles Angels rallied for a 6-4 win over the Seattle Mariners on Thursday night.
Bryce Teodosio added two RBIs for Los Angeles, while Zach Neto drove in the tying run during a three-run fifth. Sammy Peralta provided three scoreless innings of relief before Ryan Watson worked a hitless ninth for his fourth save.
The Angels overcame deficits of 3-1 and 4-3 to take the opener of their season-ending four-game series in Seattle.
Moore Gives Angels Early Lead
Los Angeles struck first against Mariners starter Bryan Woo in the second inning.
Moore delivered an RBI single that put the Angels ahead 1-0.
Seattle quickly answered against Grayson Rodriguez.
Julio Rodríguez hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the second, turning the one-run deficit into a 2-1 Mariners lead.
Seattle continued to pressure the Angels and added another run when Leo Rivas delivered an RBI single.
That extended the Mariners’ advantage to 3-1.
Rodriguez settled down enough to keep Los Angeles within striking distance, giving the Angels an opportunity to rally against Woo.
Angels Rally in Fifth
Los Angeles began cutting into the deficit in the fifth.
Teodosio drove in a run with a groundout, trimming Seattle’s advantage to 3-2.
The Angels continued the rally and brought Neto to the plate with an opportunity to tie the game.
Neto delivered the tying run, making it 3-3.
The comeback erased Seattle’s early advantage and gave the Angels new life against Woo.
However, the tie did not last long.
Seattle moved back ahead when J.P. Crawford scored on a wild pitch.
The run gave the Mariners a 4-3 lead and forced Los Angeles to respond again.
Moore Delivers Go-Ahead Double
The Angels produced their decisive rally in the sixth.
Moore stepped to the plate with Los Angeles trailing by one and delivered his biggest hit of the game.
He drove a two-run double that put the Angels ahead 5-4.
The hit gave Moore three RBIs for the night after his second-inning single had produced Los Angeles’ first run.
It also completed the Angels’ second comeback of the game.
Seattle had led 3-1 before Los Angeles tied the score in the fifth. The Mariners regained the lead, but Moore’s double turned the game back in the Angels’ favor.
Woo’s night ended after 5 1/3 innings.
The Seattle right-hander allowed five runs on seven hits. He struck out eight and took the loss, falling to 12-10.
Peralta Shuts Down Seattle
Los Angeles needed its bullpen to protect the one-run advantage after Rodriguez completed his final start of the season.
Peralta took over and gave the Angels exactly what they needed.
The left-hander worked three scoreless innings and prevented Seattle from building another comeback.
His extended relief appearance helped bridge the gap between Rodriguez and Watson.
Seattle had scored four times over the first five innings, but Peralta stopped the offense from adding to that total.
The score remained 5-4 through the seventh.
That gave the Angels an opportunity to add an insurance run before turning the game over to Watson.
Teodosio Adds Insurance
Teodosio contributed again in the eighth.
After driving in a run with his fifth-inning groundout, he delivered an RBI single to increase the Los Angeles lead to 6-4.
The hit provided valuable separation for the Angels entering the final two innings.
Teodosio finished with two RBIs and played an important role in both Los Angeles rallies.
His fifth-inning groundout helped start the comeback from a 3-1 deficit.
His eighth-inning single then gave the bullpen an additional run to protect.
Moore and Teodosio combined to drive in five of the Angels’ six runs.
Watson Closes Out Win
After Peralta handled three scoreless innings, Watson took the mound for the ninth.
The right-hander did not allow a hit.
Watson completed the scoreless inning and recorded his fourth save of the season.
The Angels bullpen did not surrender a run after Rodriguez left the game.
That allowed Moore’s sixth-inning double to stand as the decisive hit.
Peralta’s three innings were particularly important after Seattle had generated four runs against Rodriguez.
Los Angeles never allowed the Mariners to regain the momentum they had built earlier in the game.
Rodriguez Wins Final Start
Rodriguez completed five innings in his final start of the season.
The right-hander allowed four runs on five hits but received enough offensive support to earn the win.
He improved to 5-8.
Rodriguez finished his final 10 starts with a 4.45 ERA and 49 strikeouts.
His final outing included some early difficulty.
Rodríguez’s two-run homer erased the Angels’ first lead, and Rivas added another RBI as Seattle moved ahead 3-1.
The Mariners later reclaimed a 4-3 advantage when Crawford scored on a wild pitch.
Los Angeles answered each time.
The Angels’ three-run fifth tied the game before Moore’s two-run double in the sixth put Rodriguez in position for the win.
Angels Answer Seattle’s Early Offense
The game featured several lead changes before Los Angeles took control.
Moore opened the scoring with his second-inning RBI single.
Seattle responded with Rodríguez’s two-run homer and Rivas’ RBI single to build a 3-1 advantage.
Los Angeles then rallied in the fifth behind Teodosio and Neto.
Crawford’s run on a wild pitch put Seattle back in front, but the Mariners could not protect the lead.
Moore’s two-run double in the sixth changed the game for the final time.
From there, Peralta and Watson combined to keep Seattle scoreless.
Teodosio’s eighth-inning RBI single provided the final run and completed the 6-4 result.
