Kyle Stowers collected two hits and drove in two runs before leaving with left hamstring discomfort as the Miami Marlins defeated the Los Angeles Angels 12-3 on Sunday.
Griffin Conine hit two home runs, Javier Sanoja drove in three runs and the Marlins broke the game open with a six-run fifth inning to complete a dominant offensive performance.
The Angels dropped the series finale after Miami erased an early deficit and steadily pulled away. Los Angeles struggled defensively and could not recover after the Marlins’ big fifth inning.
Angels Score First
The Angels grabbed an early lead in the opening inning.
Zach Neto doubled home the game’s first run, giving Los Angeles a 1-0 advantage against Marlins starter Ryan Gusto.
Miami answered immediately in the bottom half.
Stowers tripled and later scored on a wild pitch. The Marlins added another run when Angels first baseman Nolan Schanuel made an errant throw to third in an attempt to retire Xavier Edwards. Owen Caissie followed with an RBI single to cap a three-run inning that put Miami ahead 3-1.
The Marlins never trailed again.
Rodriguez Battles Through Four Innings
Grayson Rodriguez struck out eight batters but struggled with his command.
The Angels right-hander allowed four runs on four hits over four innings while walking four. Despite the high strikeout total, he frequently worked from behind in the count and could not slow Miami’s offense.
Sanoja added an RBI single in the fourth inning to extend the Marlins’ lead to 4-2 before Rodriguez exited.
The loss dropped Rodriguez to 3-5 on the season.
Siri Keeps Angels Close
Los Angeles briefly narrowed the deficit in the third inning.
José Siri connected on a fastball from Gusto and drove it over the center-field wall for his seventh home run of the season, trimming the Marlins’ lead to 3-2.
That was as close as the Angels would get.
Gusto completed four innings, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out four. He threw 60 pitches before giving way to the bullpen.
Michael Petersen followed with a scoreless fifth inning and earned the victory.
Marlins Break It Open
Miami’s offense exploded in the fifth inning.
Facing Angels reliever Shaun Anderson, Sanoja hit a two-run single before Conine crushed a two-run homer to extend the lead.
Stowers then capped the six-run outburst with a two-run single. As he rounded first base, he appeared to grab at his left hamstring and showed visible discomfort.
The outfielder was immediately replaced by pinch-runner Leo Jimenez. Marlins manager Clayton McCullough said after the game that Stowers would undergo further evaluation.
The inning stretched Miami’s lead to 10-2 and effectively decided the game.
Conine Finishes Strong
Conine added another highlight in the eighth inning.
Facing Angels position player Tyler Heineman, who entered to preserve the bullpen, Conine led off the inning with his second home run of the afternoon.
The two-homer performance helped power a Marlins lineup that produced 12 runs and continued to pressure the Angels throughout the game.
Otto López also enjoyed another productive afternoon, collecting two infield singles to record his 46th multi-hit game of the season.
Angels Unable To Recover
The Angels added only one more run after Siri’s home run and could not generate another sustained rally.
Miami’s bullpen kept Los Angeles quiet over the final innings while the offense continued to add insurance.
The combination of timely hitting, aggressive baserunning, and capitalizing on defensive mistakes allowed the Marlins to turn a one-run deficit into a comfortable nine-run victory.

The Angels returned home to begin a four-game series against the Texas Rangers on Monday. Los Angeles was scheduled to start left-hander Reid Detmers, who entered with a 3-8 record and a 4.12 ERA, while Texas had not announced a starting pitcher.
The Marlins remained at home to open a three-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday. Miami planned to start right-hander Eury Pérez against Pirates ace Paul Skenes.
