Cole Ragans delivered one of his strongest outings of the season Saturday night as the Kansas City Royals defeated the Los Angeles Angels 12-1 at Kauffman Stadium. The left-hander struck out 11 batters across six innings while Kansas City’s offense overwhelmed the Angels from the middle innings onward.

The Royals combined sharp pitching with patient offense to secure another convincing win in the series. Kansas City drew 10 walks, capitalized on scoring opportunities and steadily pulled away against an Angels team that struggled with control and defensive pressure.

Los Angeles failed to build momentum offensively outside of a solo home run from Jo Adell. The Angels also lost catcher Logan O’Hoppe late in the game because of wrist irritation.

Ragans Controls Angels Lineup

Cole Ragans controlled the game from the mound after navigating early trouble in the second inning.

The Angels placed runners on second and third with one out and briefly threatened to create momentum. Ragans responded by striking out consecutive hitters to escape the inning without damage.

That sequence helped establish the tone for the rest of his outing. The left-hander attacked hitters aggressively and generated swings and misses throughout the night.

Ragans finished with 11 strikeouts while allowing only one run and five hits across six innings. He improved to 1-4 on the season despite several strong starts earlier in the year that lacked offensive support.

The outing also continued a larger trend for Kansas City’s rotation. The Royals entered the game among the league leaders in quality starts, and Ragans added another strong performance to that total.

His fastball command and sharp breaking pitches consistently disrupted the Angels’ lineup.

Royals Offense Builds Pressure Early

Kansas City’s offense did not rely on one explosive inning. Instead, the Royals created steady pressure through patience and situational hitting.

Nick Loftin led the way with a career-high four RBIs. He collected multiple run-scoring hits and also drew a bases-loaded walk as part of Kansas City’s disciplined approach at the plate.

The Royals repeatedly forced Angels pitchers into difficult counts and capitalized on free passes. Kansas City hitters received 10 walks overall, creating constant traffic on the bases.

Salvador Perez also delivered an important performance, finishing with three hits that included a solo home run and an RBI double.

Vinnie Pasquantino added three walks and consistently helped extend innings near the middle of the lineup.

Angels Pitching Struggles Continue

Angels starter Walbert Ureña struggled with command from the opening innings and never settled fully into the game.

The right-hander allowed four runs in fewer than four innings while issuing a career-high five walks. Kansas City’s patient lineup consistently forced him into deep counts and limited his ability to pitch aggressively.

The bullpen also failed to stop the momentum once Ureña exited.

Kansas City extended its lead further during the seventh inning when Michael Massey delivered an RBI single during a three-run rally.

The Royals added four more runs in the eighth inning. Carter Jensen highlighted the frame with a two-run single against infielder Adam Frazier, who entered to finish the game on the mound after the score became one-sided.

The Angels continued to struggle with pitching depth and run prevention during another difficult night.

Adell Provides Lone Offensive Highlight

Jo Adell accounted for the Angels’ only run with a solo home run in the fourth inning.

The blast briefly cut into Kansas City’s lead, but Los Angeles failed to generate additional offense afterward. The Angels managed only scattered hits against Ragans and the Royals bullpen.

Vaughn Grissom collected three hits and continued to provide consistent contact during a difficult stretch for the lineup overall.

Mike Trout also extended his on-base streak against Kansas City to 28 games with a hit in the eighth inning.

Despite those individual performances, the Angels could not create sustained offensive pressure.

O’Hoppe Exits With Wrist Irritation

The Angels faced another injury concern late in the game when catcher Logan O’Hoppe exited during the eighth inning because of irritation in his left wrist.

The team did not immediately provide further details following the game.

O’Hoppe has become an important part of the Angels’ lineup this season, and any absence would create additional pressure on a roster already searching for stability.

Royals Continue Building Momentum

The victory guaranteed Kansas City its first series win since opening weekend. The Royals have relied heavily on pitching and disciplined offensive approaches to regain momentum after an uneven start to the season.

Saturday’s performance reflected many of the club’s strengths. The rotation provided another quality outing, while the offense remained patient and productive throughout the game.

Kansas City also played clean defense and avoided the mistakes that often allow opponents back into games.

The balanced performance gave the Royals one of their most complete wins of the season.

Angels Search For Answers

Los Angeles continues to struggle with consistency on both sides of the field. Pitching control issues, defensive pressure and limited offensive production have combined to create difficult stretches throughout the opening months of the season.

The Angels also continue to face challenges on the road, where several recent games have slipped away because of late mistakes or ineffective pitching.

Saturday’s loss added to those frustrations as Kansas City steadily widened the gap inning by inning.
