The Los Angeles Angels farm system is starting to steadily improve after years of being at the basement of Major League Baseball. It is by no means a finished product, and will receive a boost when the Angels pick at No. 2 overall in the 2025 MLB Draft, but there are signs of life, such as Caden Dana and Christian Moore.
Dana and Moore have established themselves as the two elite prospects in the Angels farm system. Dana has already made his MLB debut, and Moore would have if not for a late-season injury, but neither are guaranteed spots on the 2025 Opening Day roster at this stage.
This keeps their status as elite prospects intact. And Baseball America certainly thinks highly of both, as they are in the Top 100 of their preseason prospect rankings.
Dana comes in at No. 78 and Moore at No. 79. They are the only two Angels to rank in the top 100.
The rest of Baseball America’s ranking of Angels prospects — their top 7 — includes Samuel Aldegheri at No. 3, George Klassen at No. 4, Nelson Rada at No. 5, Joswa Lugo at No. 6 and Ryan Johnson at No. 7.
It wouldn’t be surprising to see any of the top four of this list at the Major League level at some point this season, and the top three may all be on the Opening Day roster.
J.D. Davis, Tim Anderson agree to deals with Angels
The Angels are still searching for answers in the infield. One of their major goals going into the offseason was to have legitimate depth and not give away at-bats to below replacement-level players. And that’s certainly shown through their moves ahead of Spring Training.
They have brought in a host of utility infielders, including Scott Kingery, Kevin Newman and Ryan Noda. This has certainly addressed the issue of replacement-level depth behind their starting infield.
They then added Tim Anderson on a minor league deal hoping that he can have a resurgence after difficult 2023 and 2024 campaigns.
The last issue they haven’t addressed at all, though, is third base.
The Angels have made it clear that they do not want Anthony Rendon to be the starting third baseman when the 2025 season begins. It was assumed they would take care of that by either signing a third baseman or by signing a second baseman and moving Luis Rengifo over to third.
And while it may be a longshot, it appears the Angels have now signed a player that could be a Rendon replacement at third base in J.D. Davis.
