There will be — at most — seven more games before the 2024 MLB season comes to a close. Those games will feature the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees, who are the National and American League representatives in the World Series.
The Yankees glided their way through the American League, earning a bye to the ALDS, defeating the Kansas City Royals in four games there and needing only five games to bring down the Cleveland Guardians in the ALCS.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers needed five hard-fought battles to get past their division rival San Diego Padres in the NLDS, then fought off the feisty New York Mets in six games to clinch the NL pennant.
While their paths were different, make no mistake. The Dodgers and the Yankees are the two best teams in baseball in 2024. New York is led by the tower power trio of likely AL MVP Aaron Judge, Juan Soto and Giancarlo Stanton. All three have had moments to dazzle during this postseason.
The Dodgers are led by former L.A. Angels two-way star Shohei Ohtani, who is appearing likely to win his third MVP award, but this time solely as a designated hitter. They have two more superstars in Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman. Even though both have question marks in their pitching, this is sure to be an instant classic of a series.
The Dodgers finished the regular season with 98 wins and the Yankees with 94, meaning L.A. gets home-field advantage in this best of seven series to claim the pennant and secure their place as world champions. The full schedule for the World Series is listed below.
