The Los Angeles Angels are operating on a slow basis when it comes to hiring their next manager, that also includes the possible addition of more front office executives.

Following the firing of assistant general manager Alex Tamin, speculation of whether the Angels could add another voice above current general manager, Perry Minasian, began to float around. The significance of that move could be the next direction of the club, which also could include some hefty changes.

This week, it was announced that the Chicago White Sox added Matt Wise to their coaching staff after he served as the Angels’ pitching coach since the 2021 season.

Since Wise took over in 2021, the Angels have posted a collective 4.37 ERA, including both bullpen and starting pitching performance. His stable of arms was at their best in 2022, after they carried a 3.77 ERA as a staff.

The trickle-down from the Angels declining Phil Nevin’s option for 2024 also came with the organization allowing other members of the coaching staff to pursue outside opportunities. Wise brings a solid amount of experience to the White Sox, but joins a relatively youthful group in the American League Central.

Angels expected to hire next manager following 2023 World Series

A decent list of possible managerial candidates has been tossed around, including former New York Mets skipper Buck Showalter after he announced his own interest in the position. Darin Erstad and current infield coach Benji Gil have also expressed interest in the job.

But as the 119th Fall Classic is set to kick off on Friday, the Angels should be narrowing down their short list when it finally concludes.
