The official ballot for the 2023 MLB All-Star Game was announced on Wednesday, with voting for the initial round open until 9 a.m. PT on June 22. The Los Angeles Angels are represented with nine players in Phase 1 of voting for their shot to play in the 93rd Midsummer Classic at T-Mobile Park in Seattle.

Phase 1 voting includes fan selections for one player for each infield position, one designated hitter and three outfielders. A write-in slot is included for those aren’t listed on the official All-Star Game ballot.

The first phase of MLB All-Star Game voting provides fans with an opportunity to vote on teams in both leagues, but also includes a five-vote limit on the number of submissions for each email address within a 24-hour period.

The top six outfielders and top two vote-getters at all other positions for each league will be unveiled June 22 on MLB Network at 3 p.m. PT, and advance to the second phase of voting to determine 2023 MLB All-Star Game starters.

Phase 2 of All-Star Game voting begins at 9 a.m. on Monday, June 26, and closes at 4 p.m. on June 29. ESPN will then unveil All-Star Game starters later that night.

The pitchers and reserves for National League and American League teams – totaling 23 for each side – will be determined through a combination of “Player Ballot” choices and selections made by the commissioner’s office. The entire 2023 MLB All-Star Game rosters will be announced on Sunday, July 2, at 2:30 p.m. on ESPN.

Voting can be done at Angels.com/vote.

The Angels appearing on the initial ballot are Jared Walsh, Brandon Drury, Zach Neto, Matt Thaiss, Anthony Rendon, Hunter Renfroe, Shohei Ohtani, Mike Trout and Taylor Ward. Trout has been named to 10 All-Star teams, while his running-mate Ohtani has appeared in each of the last two seasons.

Ohtani was the lone representative for the Angels to play in last year’s Midsummer Classic, although he opted to not pitch in the game. The two-way star contributed as a designated hitter, reaching base twice in the American League’s ninth consecutive All-Star Game victory.

Philadelphia Phillies’ Rob Thomson is going to manage the 2023 NL All-Star team, while Houston Astros skipper Dusty Baker is again manager of the AL roster.

Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani among leading vote-getters

The second update of the 2023 Major League Baseball All-Star Game voting has Angels stars Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani among the leaders at their respective positions.

The American League is riddled with familiar names, led by Ohtani, who’s on the ballot as a designated hitter and their current vote leader with 1,885,144 votes.

Trout is the second leading vote-getter among AL outfielders with 1,174,001 votes. New York Yankees’ outfielder Aaron Judge leads the outfield group with 1,584,254.
