The Los Angeles Angels host the division rival Seattle Mariners for a three-game set just five days after finishing up a five-game series with them.
From June 16-19, the two clubs squared off for five games, with a double header on June 18, and the Angels ended up winning four of the matchups. It looked like a turning point for L.A., but they then went on to drop two of three from the Kansas City Royals.
The Angels enter the series with a record of 34-38 and third in the American League West while the Mariners enter 32-39 and fourth in the division.
Mike Trout is the player to watch, like he is so often, as he has feasted on Mariners pitching throughout his career and just had a five home run performance in their previous series.
Game 1: 6:38 p.m. PT
Michael Lorenzen starts the series opener looking to rebound from his last outing. The right-hander gave up seven runs in five innings while walking three and striking out three in his last start, which also came against Seattle.
The 30-year-old has been somewhat inconsistent in his first full season as a starting pitcher as he has four starts allowing four or more runs and five starts allowing one or fewer.
Overall, this has given Lorenzen a 4.15 ERA in 65 innings with 47 strikeouts and a 1.20 WHIP.
The Mariners counter with Chris Flexen, who pitched 5.1 innings and gave up two runs in his last start, which came against the Angels.
Flexen owns a 4.23 ERA across 72.1 innings with 52 strikeouts and a 1.42 WHIP, but he has been fairly consistent in allowing two or three runs, which he has done eight times, compared to two outings where he gave up five and six and three starts where he allowed one.
The 27-year-old has pitched to a 4.70 ERA across 71 games in his career.
Game 2: 7:07 p.m. PT
The second game features an exciting matchup between Patrick Sandoval and Logan Gilbert, who are both young pitchers with tons of talent.
Sandoval has pitched to a 2.70 ERA this season in 60 innings while adding 59 strikeouts and a 1.32 WHIP. In his last outing against the Mariners, he went six innings and gave up just one run.
He has also been in the midst of a breakout season, which is shown by his season ERA compared to his career 3.96 mark across 223 innings.
Gilbert is also having his own breakout season after posting a 4.68 ERA in his rookie season last year. Across 83 innings, the right-hander owns a 2.28 ERA with 82 strikeouts and a 1.04 WHIP.
He gave up two runs over six innings in his last outing against L.A. and he has pretty consistently pitched into the sixth and seventh innings this season.
Game 3: 1:07 p.m. PT
The Angels have not yet announced a starter.
The Mariners turn to veteran Marco Gonzales in the final game. The southpaw has been having a solid year with a 3.33 ERA in 75.2 innings to go along with 42 strikeouts and a 1.30 FIP.
In his last outing, which came against the Oakland Athletics, Gonzales pitched seven innings and gave up just two earned runs.
The 30-year-old holds a career 3.99 ERA in 735.2 innings.
