The Los Angeles Angels revealed their new MLB City Connect uniforms designed by Nike as part of the ongoing process to create an alternate uniform for every club.

The club will wear them on the field for the first time on Saturday when they face the New York Mets.

The Nike MLB City Connect program was created to celebrate the bond between each team and its city. The uniform series explores the personality, values and customs that make each community and their residents unique.

“There’s nothing quite like the bond between baseball fans, their home teams, and their hometowns — and the Nike MLB City Connect series is an ongoing celebration of that relationship,” Nike vice president of North America league partnerships Sonja Henning said in a statement.

“We are thrilled to honor the history of each club while pushing the bounds of what a baseball jersey can be. We hope this series will continue to energize longtime fans — and bring a generation of new ones to the game.”

Last year in the inagural season of the City Connect progam, seven clubs were selected to recieve the new uniforms, which included the L.A. Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, Chicago White Sox, Miami Marlins, Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks.

Year two of the City Connect program features the Angels, along with the Colorado Rockies, Houston Astros, Kansas City Royals, Milwaukee Brewers, San Diego Padres and Washington Nationals.

“The excitement that our fans and players showed last year at each City Connect debut is exactly what these uniforms are all about,” MLB chief revenue officer Noah Garden said.

“When we initially partnered with Nike, the incredible energy that we see at each uniform launch is exactly what we envisioned. Nike continues to raise the bar working with our Clubs on developing these unique designs, bringing each community’s story to life. We can’t wait to see how these next seven uniforms connect with our fans and generate excitement on the field this season.”

New Era and Stance worked in collaboration with teams, MLB and Nike to develop on-field City Connect caps and socks that complete each uniform.

Angels uniform inspiration and where to buy

The Angels City Connect unfiroms were inspired by California beach culuture with sand-colored jerseys with lettering based off vintage surf brands. The end of the Angels’ “s” also resembels a fish tail end of a surfboard.

The sleeve patch pays tribute to the early railway that connected Southern California and has “Los Angeles Angels” written on it, makrking the first time the club uniforms will feature Los Angeles. The left sleeves also feature stripes that drew inspiration from the “sleek and simple design of retro surfboards.”

Their new hat is designed to resemble the colors of a beach sunset of “sandy cream with a fiery red” and has a two-tone designed commonly seen on skaters.

The uniform numbers are designed to mirror the bold typeface of the side of lifeguard towers and have a deep blue coloring to represent the pacific ocean.

The Angel Stadium Team Store is the only in-store location to purchase City Connect items until June 11. Fans can also order the hat and jerseys online.
