There was no swimming upstream for the Los Angeles Angels on Monday as they easily defeated the Tampa Bay Rays by a score of 11-3 in their series opener.
Although nearly everyone contributed, the game was taken over by Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani, as happens so often for the Angels.
In the sixth inning, Mike Trout hit a two-run home run to put the Angels up 5-1 and made the game out of reach for the Rays. But perhaps more importantly, it also put Trout back at the top spot on another Angels’ record.
The home run was the 161st career home run Trout has hit at Angel Stadium, which set a new record for most home runs in the ballpark by a player. Although it may seem fishy, the record was previously held by Tim Salmon, who hit 160 career homers at the Big A.

The Angels had quite a catch when they selected Trout in the first round of the 2009 MLB draft. The three-time MVP quickly rose through the Minor Leagues and made his debut in 2011 as a 19-year-old in 2011.
His first career home run at Angel Stadium came on Aug. 19, 2011 against the Baltimore Orioles and Kevin Gregg in the eighth innings with no one on and one out.
The future Hall of Famer now has 317 career homers, with 156 of them coming away from Angel Stadium.
Ohtani follows Trout with his own home run
After Trout became the Angel Stadium all-time home run leader, Ohtani followed with a long ball of his own. This became the first time in 2022 that the Angels hit back-to-back home runs in a game.
Additionally, Shohei Ohtnai hit a grand slam in the seventh inning, giving the Angels another multi-home run game from one of their players.
