The final day of the 2023 Major League Baseball Draft o wrapped up with the Los Angeles Angels taking a solid mix of pitching and position players.
With their first round draft pick, they took Nolan Schanuel at pick 11, who brings big power. Now on day two, the Angels primarily selected pitching, mostly from the collegiate ranks. Headlined by Camden Minacci and Barrett Kent, in rounds six and eight.
Day three was a different tune, with the Angels attacking all areas, taking six position players, all from college systems.
Round 11: John Wimmer, Rock Hill High School (SC), SS
The 18-year-old is the 45th-ranked shortstop prospect in the nation and No. 190 overall. He has a commitment to play college ball at The Citadel.
Round 12: Sam Brown, Washington State, 1B
The 21-year-old infielder compiled a solid .915 on-base plus slugging with 24 home runs in his three years in college. Brown brings a left-handed bat to the table, with a .481 on-base percentage during his final season at Washington State.
Round 13: Riley Bauman, Abilene Christian University, P
Bauman had originally entered the transfer portal following the 2023 season, but the Angels selected him as the 384th player overall. The right-hander didn’t have much of a showcase this past year, going 0-2 with a 27.0 ERA in just 3.1 innings during his sophomore year.
Round 14: Zach Joyce, Tennessee, P
The brother of former Angels draft pick, Ben Joyce, Zach Joyce was taken this year as the 414th overall pick. The right-hander touched 98 towards the backend of the season with the Volunteers, and along with his four-seamer, he brings a cutter and a slider to the table.
Round 15: Caleb Ketchup, Lipscomb University, SS
Ketchup was named as a 2022 Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American, but this past season, he posted a .909 OPS with 17 home runs, 45 RBI and 68 runs scored. His 31 stolen bases make him a multi-talented threat with a plus-glove up the middle.
Round 16: Rio Foster, Florence Darlington Tech, OF
A raw talent, being just 20 years old, Foster possesses a strong body with some room to grow. In 57 games he posted a .386 batting average with 10 home runs, 53 RBI, 60 runs scored with 39 stolen bases.
Round 17: Logan Britt, Abilene Christian University, OF
In four college seasons, Britt slugged 25 home runs with a career .852 OPS collectively. His final season was his best, raising his numbers to a .998 OPS with 12 home runs, 10 doubles and 58 runs scored.
He played all three outfield positions in 166 games.
Round 18: Dalton Kendrick, University of Memphis, P
Kendrick was a four-year player while at Memphis, improving each season leading up to the 2023 year. His 3.38 ERA with 12 saves in 45.1 innings pitched, including 55 strikeouts to 13 walks, a clear step forward.
Round 19: Raudi Rodriguez, Georgia Premier Academy, OF
Rodriguez was committed to South Carolina, but the Angels took a flier on his upside and athleticism. His .959 OPS was carried by a .474 OBP, with 21 walks and just 25 strikeouts in 37 games in his senior season.
Round 20: Mac McCroskey, Oral Roberts, SS
The 23-year-old infielder capped off his two years at Oral Roberts with a continuation of his 2022 performance with a boost in power. After slugging five home runs last year, he tallied 14 long balls with 64 RBI and 67 runs scored.
McCroskey ranked fifth in the Summit League in home runs, and third in RBI.
