The 2022 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game will be loaded with top prospects from around Major League Baseball, and left-hander, Ky Bush, will be representing the Los Angeles Angels.

The game will take place on Saturday, July 16 at Dodger Stadium at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT. in L.A. as part of MLB All-Star Week. It will be broadcast live on Peacock and SiriusXM. The seven-inning American vs. National League game features rosters with 30 of the 50 rostered players who are currently ranked on MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 Prospect list.

Bush is currently with the Angels Double-A Affiliate, the Rocket City Trash Pandas. On the season, he’s posted a 3.34 ERA and a FIP of 3.85 in 14 starts.

The 22-year-old is the lone representative for the Angels, and although he is the No. 4 prospect in the organization, some numbers have tempered the expectations of some around MLB, via Maria Torres and Zach Buchanan of The Athletic:

Bush, a second-rounder in the Angels’ all-pitcher draft last year, generates mixed opinions. “Lower-leverage lefty reliever,” said one evaluator. “Looked like a mid-rotation guy to me,” said another.

His results with the Trash Pandas aren’t as flashy as they were when he debuted in 2021 with the Angels in High-A, but to replicate his 15 strikeouts per nine was a tall order for a second-year pro.

However, in 2022, Bush has averaged nearly a strikeout per inning and has limited walks allowed. Another thing to note is that he reduced the batting average allowed from .292 last season to .234 this season, in a much larger sample size.

Bush’s 6-foot-6, 240-pound frame should allow him to unlock more velocity as he matures, and because he has allowed his stuff to play in the zone after the move to Double-A, the development of his overall game has a high ceiling.

Of course, he will need to take another step forward and miss more bats if he is to propel himself into MLB Pipeline’s Top-100 list, but he is 22 years old and isn’t on a rushed timetable.
