With less than a week until the trade deadline, the Los Angeles Angels have yet to show their hand in either direction, but going 7-3 in their last 10 hasn’t helped the cause to sell off.

A sweep of the New York Yankees at Angel Stadium boosted their chase in the American League Wild Card hunt and entering play on July 26, they sit just 3.5 games out of the third spot. Winners of two straight and a shot to sweep the Detroit Tigers, they’re still in a good place.

No big moves have currently been made around the league, and the chatter with Angels star Shohei Ohtani has died down for the time being. But Angels owner Arte Moreno has never shown a willingness to give up on a season, and according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, they are checking in with teams who are open to selling:

While all clubs are exercising due diligence in trade discussions, it’s notable that in recent days, the Angels have reached out to potential sellers, expressing interest in certain available players.

The Angels have no real reason to sell, but they could, of course decide to focus on their future. Players on expiring contracts are sure to be attractive for clubs around MLB, but as far as it seems, Angels general manager Perry Minasian could be given the green light to go on the offensive for one final run.

Their playoff hopes are still slim, according to current projections, but with Mike Trout, Brandon Drury and Logan O’Hoppe returning from injury this season, the Angels may be in a better spot than many think. Still, if they go all in on this season and miss the playoffs, it could be devastating to their long-term outlook.

Angels manager Phil Nevin loves his team

The Angels have been incredibly aggressive since the start of last off season, whether it’s between subtle trades, or calling up top prospects for a hint of upside.

Phil Nevin has been at the helm during the highs, and lows since 2022, but he’s continued to voice his faith in their ability to have success. At 52-49, Nevin likes where the team is at and wants to continue winning with them.
