Rafael Devers and Jung Hoo Lee each hit three-run home runs, while Robbie Ray continued his dominant stretch on the mound as the San Francisco Giants defeated the Los Angeles Angels 9-2 on Saturday.
Ray tossed six scoreless innings to earn his ninth victory of the season, and the Giants broke the game open with a six-run third inning before cruising to their second straight win over Los Angeles. Devers finished with four RBIs and launched his team-leading 22nd home run of the season.
The Angels never recovered after an early pitching collapse, falling into a large deficit before scoring twice over the final three innings.
Giants Explode in Third Inning
San Francisco seized control with a massive rally in the third.
Rafael Devers opened the scoring with an RBI single before Casey Schmitt followed with another run-scoring base hit. Jung Hoo Lee then delivered the biggest blow of the inning, driving a sweeper 365 feet into the right-field seats for a three-run homer that pushed the Giants’ lead to 5-0.
The offensive outburst put immediate pressure on Angels starter Ryan Johnson, who struggled to slow down San Francisco’s lineup.
The Giants added another run in the fourth when Luis Arraez lined an RBI single, extending the advantage to 6-0.
Devers Delivers Again
San Francisco continued to pile on in the middle innings.
After the Giants loaded the bases in the fourth, Devers capped the rally with a towering three-run home run. The blast gave San Francisco a commanding 9-0 lead and marked Devers’ 22nd homer of the season.
The slugger has been one of baseball’s hottest hitters since the All-Star break. Saturday’s homer was his third during that span and his second in consecutive games.
Devers finished with a home run, a run-scoring single and four RBIs, leading another balanced offensive effort that overwhelmed the Angels’ pitching staff.
Ray Keeps Angels Quiet
While the Giants’ offense built a comfortable lead, Ray handled the Angels with ease.
The veteran left-hander allowed six hits across six scoreless innings while striking out five. He needed only 80 pitches before turning the game over to the bullpen.
Ray has been one of the National League’s most effective pitchers over the past several weeks. During his last seven starts, the 34-year-old has posted a 4-0 record with a 1.04 ERA over 43 1/3 innings.
The Angels managed several hits against Ray but never mounted a sustained scoring threat before he exited the game.
Angels Unable to Recover
Johnson endured a difficult outing for Los Angeles.
The right-hander surrendered eight runs on eight hits in just 3 1/3 innings, falling to 2-5 on the season. With the game already out of reach, catcher Tyler Heineman moved from behind the plate to pitch a scoreless inning of relief and kept the Giants from adding to their total.
Los Angeles finally got on the scoreboard in the seventh inning when Mike Trout drove in a run with a bases-loaded double-play ball.
Manager Ron Washington then removed Trout, Zach Neto, and Jo Adell as the lopsided score allowed the club to rest several regulars.
The Angels added one final run in the ninth after Jose Siri drew a bases-loaded walk, but the late offense did little to change the outcome.
Giants Continue Strong Stretch
San Francisco combined timely hitting with another outstanding performance from its veteran ace to secure a convincing victory.
The Giants collected contributions throughout the lineup, highlighted by Devers’ four RBIs and Lee’s three-run homer, while Ray continued to anchor the rotation with another efficient start.
For the Angels, the loss underscored another difficult night on the mound, as an early deficit proved impossible to overcome despite collecting six hits against Ray.
