The Los Angeles Angels and Minnesota Twins only got the chance to play one of their three-game set earlier this month due to a COVID-19 outbreak that hit the Twins organization. The two other games were postponed for a date to be announced later.

Major League Baseball announced today that the postponed games between the Angels and the Twins, originally scheduled for April 17th-18th at Angel Stadium, will be made up as a traditional doubleheader beginning at 1:07 p.m. (PT) on Thursday, May 20th, which was originally an off-day for both Clubs.

For the Angels, this is a relatively convenient switch, as it comes right in the middle of a home stand on a previously scheduled off day. May 20 was in between three-game sets against the Cleveland Indians and the Oakland Athletics.

A traditional double-header means both games will be seven innings in length with the first game beginning at 1:07 p.m. PT and the second beginning at 4:07 p.m. PT. Due to limited capacity in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is unclear how the Angels will handle tickets for these two games.

Typically, fans who have tickets to one game of a double header can be admitted to the other game as well. This situation might be different, as the previous games were being played on two separate days. The Angels will likely provide more information in the weeks leading up to May 20.

This scheduling change favors the Angels far more than the Twins. They play at home against the Chicago White Sox on May 19, in Anaheim on May 20, then must fly to Cleveland to face the Indians on May 21.

The Angels will now have just two off days in the entire month of May, on the 13th and the 24th.

Angels-Blue Jays make-up date August 10

The Angels other postponement — a weather-based delay against the Toronto Blue Jays earlier this month — was rescheduled as a split doubleheader to take place Aug. 10.

This change results in the Angels getting one extra home game this season, as the game was originally supposed to take place in Dunedin, Florida.
