Kyle Bradish delivered one of his strongest outings of the season, striking out nine while pitching eight shutout innings as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Los Angeles Angels 6-1 on Monday night to extend their winning streak to three games.

Taylor Ward homered against his former team in his return to Angel Stadium, while Coby Mayo broke the game open with a three-run homer as Baltimore improved to 4-3 on its nine-game road trip.

Ward Shines in Return to Anaheim

Ward wasted no time making an impact in his first game back at Angel Stadium since being traded by the Angels during the offseason.

He launched the fourth pitch of the game from Sam Aldegheri over the center-field wall for a leadoff home run, his 56th career homer at Angel Stadium.

Following the opening inning, the Angels honored Ward with a tribute video recognizing his eight seasons with the organization.

Ward also finished with two hits in the victory.

Bradish Overpowers Angels

Bradish (5-7) controlled the game from start to finish.

The right-hander scattered six hits and one walk across eight scoreless innings while striking out nine. He continued his recent surge, totaling 21 strikeouts over his last two starts.

Los Angeles entered the game after scoring 27 runs over its previous three contests, but Bradish consistently kept the Angels off balance and never allowed them to mount a serious rally.

Mayo Provides the Big Blow

Baltimore expanded its early lead in the fourth inning.

Coby Mayo crushed a three-run home run to make it 4-0, giving Bradish plenty of run support.

The Orioles added another run in the fifth on Pete Alonso’s sacrifice fly before Gunnar Henderson tripled home a run in the seventh to stretch the lead to 6-0.

Orioles Overcome Injuries

Baltimore played much of the game with an improvised defensive alignment.

Already without second baseman Jackson Holliday because of a groin injury, the Orioles lost third baseman Blaze Alexander to a knee injury in the third inning.

Outfielder Leody Taveras moved to third base for the first time in seven seasons and handled the position while contributing two hits offensively.

Soler Ends the Shutout

The Angels avoided being blanked in the ninth inning.

Jorge Soler, returning from the injured list, homered off Rico Garcia for Los Angeles’ only run.

Starter Sam Aldegheri (2-3) took the loss after allowing five runs on five hits over 4 2/3 innings.

Baltimore improved to 21-6 against the Angels since the start of the 2022 season.
