The Los Angeles Angels picked up their second win in three days following their franchise-record 14-game losing streak with a strong offensive showing against the New York Mets.

The Halos slugged five home runs in their 11-6 victory, including two from Mike Trout and one each from Shohei Ohtani, Jared Walsh and Andrew Velazquez. All of Trout, Ohtani and Walsh were a triple away from a cycle at one point in the game as well.

While Trout was removed from the game early to give him some extra rest and Ohtani fell short of the cycle, Walsh earned the triple in the bottom of the eighth inning to complete the 9th cycle in Angels history.

He’s the eighth different player in Angels history to hit for the cycle and the first since Shohei Ohtani on June 13, 2019 against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Walsh finished the day 4-for-5 with three RBI and one run scored. Although he had a slow start to the season, the 2021 All-Star first baseman is batting .260/.309/.474 with a .337 wOBA, 121 wRC+ and 11 home runs.

Mike Trout’s historic night

Trout hit his first home run of the game in the third inning off Mets’ starter Carlos Carrasco with no one on base. While it seemed like an ordinary homer, that gave him 847 RBI in his career, which moved him into third place past Brian Downing in the Angels’ record books.

Trout finished the day with 849 RBI in his Angels career, 167 behind Tim Salmon (1,016) for second place and 443 behind Angels franchise leader Garrett Anderson (1,292).

While Trout may not be the Angels career RBI leader yet, he did extend his club record with another multi-home run game. His second homer of the game in the sixth inning off Jake Reed gave Trout his 23rd career game with multiple long balls.
