The Los Angeles Dodgers will try to extend their home winning streak and strengthen their position atop the National League West when they host the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday afternoon at Dodger Stadium.

The matchup marks the sixth meeting between the Southern California rivals this season. The Dodgers have controlled the series so far, winning all five previous contests. They enter the game with a 42-23 record and one of the strongest home records in baseball, while the Angels continue to search for consistency amid a difficult season.

Los Angeles has won three straight home games and continues to play at a high level on both sides of the ball. The Dodgers lead the National League in team batting average and have maintained their place near the top of the standings despite dealing with a lengthy list of injuries.

The Angels arrive with a 24-41 record and sit fifth in the American League West. Although they rank among the better power-hitting teams in the league, recent results have been difficult to overcome. The club has dropped seven of its last 10 games and remains well below .500 as it attempts to stay competitive in the division race.

Pitching Matchup Draws Attention

Sunday’s game features an intriguing pitching matchup between two right-handers.

The Angels will hand the ball to José Soriano, who has been one of the brightest spots in their rotation this season. Soriano enters with a 6-4 record, a 2.72 ERA and 85 strikeouts. He has consistently given Los Angeles quality innings and has emerged as the staff’s most dependable starter.

Soriano’s ability to limit damage and keep the ball in the park has helped him remain effective even when the Angels have struggled offensively. He will face one of the most productive lineups in baseball and will need another strong outing to give his team a realistic chance of ending the season-series drought against the Dodgers.

The Dodgers are expected to counter with Emmet Sheehan. The right-hander owns a 3-2 record with a 4.50 ERA and 62 strikeouts. While Sheehan has shown flashes of dominance, consistency has occasionally been an issue. Still, he benefits from pitching behind a powerful offense that often provides strong run support.

The duel between Soriano and Sheehan could determine whether the Angels can remain competitive deep into the game or whether the Dodgers can once again seize early control.

Ohtani Continues To Lead Dodgers Attack

Much of the Dodgers’ offensive success continues to revolve around Shohei Ohtani.

The former Angels star enters the game batting .300 while contributing across every offensive category. He has collected 14 doubles, two triples, 11 home runs, 35 RBI and 43 walks through the first portion of the season.

Ohtani’s transition into a central role in the Dodgers’ lineup has gone smoothly. His combination of power, speed and plate discipline continues to create problems for opposing pitchers.

Freddie Freeman has also been heating up recently. Over his last 10 games, the veteran first baseman has produced 13 hits, including four home runs and 10 RBI. His recent form has provided additional support for a lineup that already ranks among baseball’s most dangerous groups.

The Dodgers have consistently generated offense throughout the season. Their .262 team batting average leads the National League and reflects the depth of a lineup capable of producing from top to bottom.

Angels Seek Offensive Support

The Angels will once again look to Mike Trout for leadership and production.

Despite a challenging season for the club, Trout remains one of the most dangerous hitters in the lineup. He enters the matchup with 14 home runs and 10 doubles while continuing to provide power in the middle of the order.

Vaughn Grissom has also contributed recently. Over his last 10 games, he has recorded 12 hits, including four doubles and two home runs. His emergence has provided a needed boost for an offense searching for consistency.

The Angels rank among the American League leaders in home runs, with 74 long balls entering Sunday’s game. However, their power production has not consistently translated into wins. Extended offensive droughts and pitching struggles have made it difficult for the club to build momentum.

Facing a Dodgers team that has dominated the season series only adds to the challenge.

Injuries Remain Major Story

Both teams continue to manage significant injury concerns.

The Dodgers have remained successful despite an extensive injured list that includes Tyler Glasnow, Blake Snell, Tommy Edman, Gavin Stone, Evan Phillips and several other key contributors. The club’s depth has allowed it to absorb those losses while maintaining its position atop the division.

The Angels are also dealing with multiple absences. Jorge Soler, Yoán Moncada, Yusei Kikuchi and Travis d’Arnaud are among the players unavailable due to injury. The lack of depth has made it more difficult for Los Angeles to overcome injuries and remain competitive over long stretches.

Even with key players sidelined, both teams continue to rely on their core stars to drive performance.

Series Edge Favors Dodgers

The Dodgers have held a clear advantage whenever these teams have met this season.

Their 5-0 record in the season series reflects a gap in both consistency and execution. The Dodgers have received stronger pitching performances, more reliable offense and better overall production throughout the matchup.

The Angels will attempt to change that narrative on Sunday behind Soriano, who gives them one of their best chances to compete against a powerful opponent.

For the Dodgers, the objective is simple. Continue the home winning streak, maintain momentum in the division race and complete another successful chapter in the Freeway Series.

First pitch is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at Dodger Stadium.
