The Los Angeles Angels have caught the injury bug as of late which has led to them falling 2.5 games behind the Houston Astros in the American League West, and they will now be without third baseman Anthony Rendon due to a wrist issue.

Rendon’s 2021 season left a lot to be desired after it was marred by a plethora of injuries. He dealt with hamstring, groin, and knee problems last year, and subsequently, the Angels shut him down to limit the damage.

The Angels have had a plan in place to keep the veteran fresh, but prior to Thursday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays, Rendon felt something in his wrist and the club opted to get ahead of the issue:

Following the results, the Angels placed him on the 10-day injured list due to wrist inflammation.

Rendon signed with the Angels for seven years $245 million following the 2019 season and has only appeared in 151 games since coming to L.A. and has slashed .242/.335/.403 with five home runs that are good for a 118 wRC+.

Rendon providing veteran leadership

Rendon made his MLB debut with the Washington Nationals as a 22-year-old in 2013, and since then he developed into one of the most important figures in the history of their franchise.

He capped off his time in D.C. by winning the World Series in 2019 as a 29-year-old, which was one of the younger starters in a lineup that also featured veterans Ryan Zimmerman, Kurt Suzuki, Howie Kendrick, Adam Eaton, and Asdrubal Cabrera.

Now in 2022, he has had somewhat of a rebound from 2021, but he also wants his value to extend more off the field. Rendon is trying to be a leader for the Angels, who have many young players, and wants to install a winning mentality into all the players.
