Angels’ Tyler Anderson Earns Second All-Star Game Selection

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Tyler Anderson was named to the American League All-Star Team for the 2024 edition of the Midsummer Classic. It’s his second selection — 2022 with the L.A. Dodgers — and is well-earned after a major turnaround from a dismal 2023 campaign.

Anderson has undoubtedly been the Angels’ most consistent player in 2024. In 112 innings over 18 starts this season, Anderson has a 2.81 ERA, 1.179 WHIP and 151 ERA+. Anderson is the first left-handed Angels pitcher to be named an All-Star since Hector Santiago in 2015.

He is the Angels’ only All-Star this season.

The selection comes one day after manager Ron Washington endorsed Tyler Anderson to be an Al-Star following a shutout eight innings on Saturday night against the Chicago Cubs.

Anderson spoke about what the selection means to him and why he’s excited to be a part of one of the biggest events on the baseball calendar for a second time, via Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com:

“It’s a cool honor,” Anderson said. “You get to go represent our team. There’s a lot of guys on this team that are really good players and deserving. But just to represent the Angels for this game, it’s an honor.”

“Honestly, it’s just so much fun because it’s a way to talk to guys,” Anderson said. “For me, I really like pitching and generally love the game of baseball. So you get to see and talk to a lot of guys and just try to learn some stuff from them. See how they go about their business, what the routines are like, what their thoughts are, and then just see a lot of really good players and good baseball. It’s just a fun experience.”

Anderson credited his turnaround from 2023 to 2024 to a change in routine and getting his body in better shape than it was in last year. He has said several times this season that he never felt fully right in 2023 and that contributed to most of his issues.

This is the culmination of a phenomenal half-season from the Angels pitcher, and while his name may be in trade rumors, he is going to continue to work hard for whatever team has him by the end of this month.
