Heading into the offseason, the Los Angeles Angels have quite a bit of wiggle room within their roster and how they project in terms of salary with players under contract for 2024. Anthony Rendon, Mike Trout, and Tyler Anderson headline those expected to be with the team next year, while others could have their options declined.
As it currently stands, the Angels have seven players under contract for the 2024 season, with two club options with Eduardo Escobar and Aaron Loup. Spotrac projections after payroll and all arbitration cases have them sitting at a shade over $161 million, which leaves them with around $106 million in space to the competitive balance tax (CBT) threshold.
All included, the Angels have Anderson, Brandon Drury, Carlos Estévez, David Fletcher, Rendon, Max Stassi and Trout officially under contract next year.
That won’t include those with options, Minor League players, or anyone eligible for salary arbitration.
Angels contracts for 2024
Tyler Anderson
Anderson slots in as the third-highest paid member of the Angels, carrying an average annual value of $13 million in the second-year of a three-year, $39 million deal.
He’ll be 34 years old when the 2024 season kicks off.
Brandon Drury
Drury enters the final year of his two-year $17 million contract he signed with the Angels prior to last season. He’s currently the 16th-highest paid second baseman in Major League Baseball.
Eduardo Escobar
Escobar was traded to the Angels in the middle of this season, but enters the offseason with a club option worth $9 million.
Carlos Estévez
The Angels closer earned his worth, being named to his first All-Star Game, and enters the final year of the two-year, $13.5 million deal he signed prior to the 2023 campaign. Estévez should be a trade candidate if general manager Perry Minasian chooses to offload the talented right-hander.
David Fletcher
Fletcher had his arbitration years bought out by the Angels after he signed a five-year, $26 million in April 2021. He carries an AAV of $6 million, which is a manageable value for the versatility he provides.
Aaron Loup
The veteran left-hander spent much of the 2023 season on the injured list, and the Angels have the option to either pick up his 2024 club option worth $7.5 million, or exercise his $2 million buyout should they decline.
Anthony Rendon
Rendon is heading into the fifth-year of his seven-year, $245 million contract, which he signed prior to the 2020 season. He carries a $35 million hit towards the luxury tax, with all-in cash for the 2024 season at $38 million.
His contract includes a full no-trade clause.
Max Stassi
The veteran catcher was out for the of the 2023 season attending to a private family matter, but enters the final year of his three-year, $17.5 million contract. Stassi carries a $7 million AAV for 2024.
Mike Trout
The longest tenured member of the Angels roster has a full no trade clause on his current deal, and in his 12th year in MLB, Trout carries a base salary of $35.45 million. He’s under contract through the 2030 season.
