Jul 14, 2024; Ft. Worth, TX, USA; Christian Moore is congratulated by MLB commissioner Rob Manfred after being selected by the Los Angeles Angels as the eight player taken during the first round of the MLB Draft at Cowtown Coliseum.

Los Angeles Angels’ 2024 first-round draft pick and No. 2 overall prospect has already made headlines in the six weeks since his entrance into the pro ranks. The Angels promoted him from Class-A Inland Empire to Double-A Rocket City after only two games, and he continued his dominance at the plate from there.

He has since cooled off, but still boasts a .302 batting average and .866 OPS with five home runs and 10 RBI in 22 games as a member of the Trash Pandas. There was talk of him joining the Angels other top prospect, Caden Dana, on the big league roster as a September call-up, just to give him a taste of the Majors before the offseason.

Those plans may be on hold, though, as Moore has suffered a meniscus injury in Double-A and is expected to miss some time, according to MLB.com:

Moore left Friday’s game with Double-A Rocket City in the seventh inning with a left knee injury after trying to make a catch on a liner at second base. Moore, ranked as the club’s No. 2 prospect, appeared to land awkwardly on his left knee and was removed from the game. Moore was the No. 8 selection in this year’s Draft and was considered a candidate to be a September callup after a strong start to his Minor League career. The Angels announced on Wednesday that Moore was evaluated in Alabama and was diagnosed with a meniscus injury in his left knee. The plan is to treat it conservatively, and he could return this season. He’s not expected to undergo surgery.

Given all of the mensicus issues with Angels superstar Mike Trout, reading that diagnosis could be a difficult situations for fans. However, this appears to be a far milder case and one that possibly won’t even stop Moore from returning to Double-A this season.

A big league call-up seems unlikely at this stage, though, as he only has 24 professional games under his belt and won’t play again for some time. As always, the Angels are going to treat the injury with care and safety and not try to rush Moore back to get him up to the Majors.

Angels’ Reid Detmers shines in return to Majors

The Angels made the decision to bring Reid Detmers back to the Major League rotation after a hiatus at Triple-A for much of the season. He made the decision pay off in a big way, as he struck out 10 batters while giving up two earned runs in six innings of work.
