Anthony Rendon misses much of the 2022 season for the Los Angeles Angels due to surgery to repair a subluxation of a tendon in his right wrist.

The veteran was limited to just 47 games and was mostly unproductive in those games. He was able to return at the end of the season to complete a five-game suspension and got a game in to help build some momentum heading into the offseason.

But despite returning at the end of the season, Rendon’s wrist still didn’t feel right. However, it has continued to improve and he’s close to being fully healthy, via Sarah Valenzuela of the L.A. Times:

Rendon’s wrist didn’t feel healed during the offseason, but he’s continued to get stronger and rehabilitate it to get closer to feeling like his old self.

Rendon hasn’t played more than 58 games in a season as he heads into his fourth year with the club. The 2020 season was only 60 games, but the other two were injury-heavy years for the two-time Silver Slugger, who noted the toll the injuries have taken on him:

“It drains a lot out of you not just physically, but mentally,” he said. “It’s not fun at all. I don’t know if any of y’all have had surgery, but I’ve had a lot. Every single time it gets worse.”

Rendon still has four more years on his seven-year contract, but he hopes to avoid more serious injuries during that time so he can take care of and play with his children once he retires:

“I’m planning for trying to take care of my kids as they get older,” he said. “I mean, hip surgery, ankle surgeries, wrist surgeries, I want to play with them when they’re 10, 12, 15 years old.

“I know right now, it looks like we’re playing for these next four years of baseball,” he continued. “I’m trying to hang out with my kids for the rest of their lives.”

This past season, Rendon posted a .706 on-base plus slugging with five home runs and 24 RBI. Over his three seasons with the Angels, he’s batted .252/.359/.420 with 20 home runs and 89 RBI.

Anthony Rendon using Spring Training to get ready after injury issues

The 10-year veteran entered Spring Training feeling a bit awkward being out on the field after missing so many games and not playing much baseball in the past few years, but he plans to use the time to get himself feeling ready for the season.
