The 2023 regular season is approaching as Spring Training report days for all teams around Major League Baseball were announced. Manager Phil Nevin and the Los Angeles Angels will begin camp in just a little more than a month as pitchers and catchers will report on Wednesday, February 16 at Tempe Diablo Stadium.
Nevin will get a glimpse of his entire team when the first full-squad workout takes place on Monday, Feb. 20. Workouts are open to the public with Angels practices beginning around 9:30 a.m.
The Angels train at the six full fields adjacent to the main stadium. Photo day is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 7:00 a.m. in Tempe.
There haven’t been any reports of players on the current roster reporting early to camp, but there’s still time. Nevin has a solid amount of new players on his club, and with an expectation-filled season ahead of them, he discussed the positive changes to MLB’s scheduling.
Fans of MLB will have an opportunity to acclimate themselves to stars from cities they wouldn’t have been able to with the old scheduling system. The number of division games will decrease from 76 to 52.
“I think it’s great for the fans of the game,” Nevin said at MLB’s Winter Meetings in December. “The National League cities are going to get to see Mike and Shohei and the rest of the guys for every other year in their city.”
“Yeah, I think it will be fun.”
General manager Perry Minasian has eight members of his active roster who are slated to take part in the 2023 World Baseball Classic. Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani, Patrick Sandoval, David Fletcher, Max Stassi, Zack Weiss, Jaime Barría, and Luis Rengifo will play for their respective countries when the tournament kicks off in early March.
2023 Angels Spring Training schedule
The Angels will open Cactus League play on Saturday, Feb. 25 against the Seattle Mariners at the Peoria Sports Complex. Their home opener is slated for Feb. 26 as they host the Chicago White Sox at Tempe Diablo Stadium.
The Angels have a total of 32 games of Spring Training baseball, including 28 Cactus League games in Arizona, followed up by a WBC opponent and the annual Freeway Series with the Los Angeles Dodgers from March 26-28.
