Steven Duggar was well-traveled during the 2022 season, which included making a stop with the Los Angeles Angels.

Duggar began this past season with the San Francisco Giants before being traded to the Texas Rangers in June for Willie Calhoun. The Angels then claimed him off waivers in August when the Rangers designated Duggar for assignment.

Despite appearing for three different clubs, Duggar only played in 29 total games, which included a high of 12 for the Giants, along with nine for the Angels and eight for the Rangers. In 80 plate appearances, he hit .153/.225/.222 with two doubles, one triple, four RBI and five stolen bases.

At the time of joining the Angels, Duggar was struggling badly at the plate while dealing with oblique injuries throughout the season. He hoped joining the Angels would provide him with the fresh start he needed, but he was unable to turn around his season.

In 22 plate appearances for the Angels, he hit just .053/.182/.158 with the triple as his lone extra-base hit. He was designated for assignment in September, but he chose to become a free agent rather than head to the Triple-A Salt Lake Bees.

Duggar played a career-high 107 games for the Giants during the 2021 season, batting .257/.330/.437 with 14 doubles, five triples, eight home runs, 35 RBI and seven stolen bases. Over parts of five seasons in the Majors, the majority of which came with the Giants, Duggar has hit 236/.293/.367 and appeared in 271 games.

Steven Duggar 2022 highlight

Duggar’s best game of the season came while he was playing for the Giants against the Cleveland Guardians on April 16. The 28-year-old went 1-for-3 at the plate with a double and a walk. It was his highest win probability added of the season at .130 during the 4-2 victory.

2023 outlook

Duggar signed a Minor League contract with the L.A. Dodgers and will look to earn a spot on their Major League roster as a backup outfielder. If Duggar can return to his 2021 form with his health back, he could push for a starting job on the Dodgers, who are in need of a starting outfielder.

However, his most likely scenario is serving as organizational depth with the Triple-A Oklahoma City Dodgers, and it would not be surprising to see him end up in another organization at some point.
