As expected based on the most recent voting returns, the Los Angeles Angels had two players advance to Phase 2 of the All-Star Game Voting. Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout each led the way at their respective positions, and now have to win one more voting round to earn the starting position at the Midsummer Classic.

Trout and Ohtani led the American League outfielder and designated hitter positions — respectively — for the entirety of Phase 1. Now, fans can give them the starting role by voting for them just a few more times.

Meanwhile, Jared Walsh — who had been threatening to enter the top three for first basemen, could not complete the comeback. He finished in fourth behind the Toronto Blue Jays’ Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Houston Astros’ Yuli Gurriel, and Chicago White Sox’s Jose Abreu.

The top-three from each position — and top-nine outfielders — all advance to Phase 2, which opens Monday, June 28, and 9:00 a.m. PT. Phase 2 ends on Thursday, July 1, at 11 a.m. PT with voting totals reset for the entire round.

Fans have the same options to vote as before. They can vote on MLB.com/vote or by searching “MLB All-Star Vote” on Google. Angels fans will certainly do their part to ensure Ohtani and Trout represent them in the All-Star Game, taking place July 13 at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado.

With voting for Phase 2 ending on July 1, starters will be announced that same day at 6 p.m. PT. The remainder of the rosters will be revealed on July 4 at 2:30 p.m. The full list of Phase 2 finalists can be seen below.
